All About Reception and Year 1

Reception year is a time of great change for both children and their parents. It is a very exciting time for children and we have a lot of experience in helping them adjust to school life.

In Year 1 children move from the Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1. We continue to build upon the progress the children have made during their Reception year and to encourage greater independence in subtle ways.

Term 1 and 2

We are Historians

We have got an exciting term ahead in Year 1 and 2!

Our key texts for this term are Ivy and the Lonely Raincloud by Katie Harnett, Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper and The Storm Whale in Winter by Benji Davies!

As Historians this term, we will be learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and the wonderful difference they made to soldiers in the Crimean War.

In Science we will be observing how seeds and bulbs grow as well as identifying and naming different sources of food.

As we move towards Christmas, it will be time to start practising our Nativity play!
