All About Year 5 and 6

Year 5 marks the move for children from lower to upper Key Stage 2. This year is where we provide children with opportunities to gain independence and to seek out, and accept, greater responsibility.

Year 6 is an exciting final year at the school. As well as sitting their SATs the children have a residential trip and an end of year performance to look forward to.

Term 1 and 2

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow...

Exploring Maya

Year 5 and 6 will be uncovering the mysteries of the Mayan civilisation. We will start by taking a trip deep into the rainforests of Central America as we explore Mayan ruins and, from there, we will be embarking on a journey that will help us uncover the life, society and civilisation of both ancient and modern Mayan people.

Term 3 and 4

Out of this World

Upper Key Stage 2 are going

Out of this World

and

‘Into Hogwarts’.

We will be beginning our own magical journey into the wizarding world by reading ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’ by J.K. Rowling.

Our young witches and wizards will be researching the history of witches and wizards, writing a letter of complaint from the Basilisk and locating some of the places where the films were created using grid referencing.

Professor Hooch will be teaching the skills of Quidditch in PE, and Professor Snape will be helping the children understand the science behind some of the magic.

We hope Hogwarts is ready!
