Class 6

WATER

All about Year 2

Year 2 is a very important final year in Key Stage 1. We continue to build on the children's progress and help prepare them for life in Key Stage 2 and the Juniors.

A Night at the Museum

Year 2 (Classes 5 and 6) are having a Night in the Museum!  We have been transported back to the 17th Century to investigate the causes and effects of the Great Fire of London in 1666.  We will be looking at Fire Safety then and now (with the help of the Gloucestershire Fire Service) and will also ‘meet’ two famous people from the time – Samuel Pepys and King Charles II – and see how they have shared their experiences of the Fire.

We will be finding out about Famous People who live, or have lived, locally.  These will include Dr Edward Wilson, Edward Jenner, Gustav Holst, HRH Charles, Prince of Wales, and Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards!

Up, Up and Away

In Year 2, we are going Up, Up and Away through the eyes of a seagull (there are lots of those in our playground!).  We are using maps and atlases to revise the countries of the United Kingdom and to learn the major oceans and continents of our world.  We will also be using our map skills when we are looking at lighthouses and seasides.
