All About Year 3 and 4

Year 3 is an exciting year for the children when they move from KS1 to KS2. We try to make the transition as enjoyable as possible for the children.

In Year 4 we continue to build upon the knowledge and skills they have learnt in previous years. The children will be involved with a variety of topic work throughout the year.

Term 5 and 6

Up, Up and Away...

Forests and Woodlands

Year 3 and 4 are exploring the UK forests and woodlands and comparing them to the Amazon rainforest. We will use geographical skills including map work to name and locate parts of the UK and the Amazon rainforest in Brazil.

In English we are exploring play scripts. We will profile characters, create storyboards and develop our ideas to write our own playscript set in the forest.

In science we will learn about plants, parts of plants and their life cycle and complete different investigations.

Term 3 and 4

The Land of Make Believe...

During term 3 classes 6, 7 and 8 are using famous narratives as a source for exploring how to write effectively in this genre. We will be investigating poetry and playscript in term 4 when we will be exploring the Just So stories by Rudyard Kipling.

Term 1 and 2

Night at the Museum

Year 3 and 4 are going back in time to the Stone Age and Roman periods of Britain. We will explore how the Stone Age came to be and compare their lifestyles with ours today. We will be analysing historical sources to learn about the past, as well as using our historical skills to consider their validity. After half term we will be thinking about the Romans and their invasion of Britain. We will learn about Boudicca and her rebellion and consider what the Romans have left for our modern life today.

In English we will be writing narratives based on ‘Stone Age Boy’ as well as newspaper reports of a Roman invasion. In art lessons we are looking forward to getting creative with cave paintings, salt dough necklaces and bracelets and Roman mosaics.
