All About Year 1 and 2

In Year 1 children move from the Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1. We continue to build upon the progress the children have made during their Reception year and to encourage greater independence in subtle ways.

Year 2 is a very important final year in Key Stage 1. We continue to build on the children's progress and help prepare them for life in Key Stage 2 and the juniors.

Term 5 and 6

Up, Up and Away...

Class 4 are going…Up, Up and Away!

We are going to be exploring England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland! We will also be learning about the seaside. We will be using the fantastic story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and other stories from the collection to help us. In science we will be finding out about plants and different habitats. In our dance lessons we will creating and performing our very own seaside dance!

Term 3 and 4

The Land of Make Believe...

Year 1 and 2 – Classes 3, 4 and 5 are being transported into ‘The Land of Make Believe’

We will be exploring and following the adventures of:

  • The Smartest Giant in Town
  • The Storm Whale
  • The Tear Thief
  • Flat Stanley

We will be writing in a variety of genres, such as, letter writing, information writing and poetry. We will be completing lots of science, including testing the properties of materials and finding out about animals including humans.

Term 1 and 2

Night at the Museum

Year 1 and 2 – Classes 3, 4 and 5 are going into the past – A Night at the Museum!

We are looking at ‘Here We Are!’ by Oliver Jeffers to explore what it’s like to be back together at school again!  We’re all different but all have a place in our amazing world. 

We will also be exploring what toys were like a very long time ago and what this tells us about life in the past. We will be using historical sources and our historical skills to find out what toys used to be like and how they have changed. In science we will be finding out about materials and consider what different materials toys are made out of in the past and now. We will finish our topic by creating our very own toy museum!
