All About Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting year for the children when they move from KS1 to KS2. We try to make the transition as enjoyable as possible for the children.

Term 5 and 6

All Aboard...

In our All Aboard topic we are focusing on The Great Round the World Balloon Race by Sue Scullard.
For this topic we will take flight to explore and find out:

  • Where in the world do we live?
  • What geographical similarities and differences are there between France and England?
  • What are the parts of a river called?
  • How are mountains formed?
  • Why do volcanoes erupt?
  • How do earthquakes occur?

In English and Computing we will be researching into who, where and when the first manned balloon flight was?
In Science we will be exploring:

  • What is friction?
  • Why is air resistance important?
  • How is water resistance similar to air resistance?


In Art we will explore how the environment can change over time looking at ‘ by
Jeannie Baker For our Design Technology we will be extending our skills to make our very own hot air balloons

Term 3 and 4

Lights, Camera, Action

In Year 3 for ‘Lights Camera Action’ we are going on a journey with Wallace and Gromit to Investigate:

English

Instructions, characterization, story wring and play scripts.

Maths

Addition and subtraction, shape, types of angles and lines and measures.

ICT

Animation and digital content.

Geography

Continents, oceans and countries.

Science

Light and plants.

Frozen in Time

This term in Year 3 we are becoming history detectives.

We are trying to uncover the past.

Our quest is to discover.

Ø  Were Stone Age people simply hunters and gathers?

Ø  What were the changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age?

Ø  How did life change in the Bronze and Iron Age?

Ø   Who was Boudicca and who were the Celts?

Ø      Why did the Romans invade Britain?
