About Year 6
Year 6 is an exciting final year at the school. As well as sitting their SATs the children have a residential trip and an end of year performance to look forward to.
Term 5 and 6
Where in the World?
En Route to Russia
It’s a very busy time in Year 6, not only are we preparing for our SATs, Residential and going to Secondary School, we are also En Route to Russia for the World Cup!
We will be travelling through Eastern Europe to Russia where we be looking at the different continents, countries and cities there.
We will be comparing the contrasting landscapes, climates and places throughout our travels.
We will be learning about what happened in Chernobyl and how this affected other countries.
We will end our experience by planning a trip to Russia to watch the world cup final.
Term 3 and 4
Time Traveller
Groovy Greeks
This term year 6 will be Time Travellers and travel back in time to study the Ancient Greek Civilisation. We will learn about who the Ancient Greek people were, when they lived and where and how they were able to establish their empire. We will learn how the political system worked in Ancient Greece, investigate the legacy of Athenian Democracy and compare it with the political systems we have today. The children will also compare and contrast the modern day Olympics with the Ancient Greek events. They will learn about and order events from the Battle of Marathon and write in role to present the events from a specific viewpoint. In addition to this they will learn about Ancient Greek religion, research information about a variety of Greek gods and write their own Greek myth. Finally they will use historical evidence to find out about the Trojan War and use the information to write and re-enact scenes from it.
Term 1 and 2
Hocus Pocus
When mysterious letters start arriving in Class 12 and 13, the children begin to get excited about their adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Their journey will entail learning about conducting magic spells and concocting potions. They will be practicing their skills of observations with their feathered friends, conducting musical incantations and designing and making all of their equipment for a successful and magical term at Hogwarts.
