All About Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting year for the children when they move from KS1 to KS2. We try to make the transition as enjoyable as possible for the children.

We have a number of exciting topics that are taught throughout the year. We have revised our curriculum to make it as relevant and interesting as possible for the children. Our thematic, skills based approach has been extended to incorporate a wider range of writing, mathematic and creative opportunities.

Out of this World - Term 1 and 2

The Bee Movie – The World of Bees.

We will learning about the importance of the bee and pollination. We will be finding out about the life cycle of flowering plants.

 

A Grand Day Out with Wallace And Gromit

We will be asking …..

Is the moon made of cheese?

We will be looking at the moon and it’s place in space.

We will be designing and making a Wallace and Gromit circuit game.

We will be planning and writing our own adventure stories.

Time Warp - Term 3 and 4

This term Year 3 are history detectives and are trying to uncover the past.

We are trying to find out……

Wasn’t the Stone Age just a bunch of cavemen?

How did life change in the Bronze and Iron Age?

Why did the Romans invade Britain?

ho was Boudicca and who were The Celts?

What was the life of a Roman Soldier like ?

A Road To... Term 5 and 6

Year 3 will begin by looking at our place in the world- where we fit in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK, Europe and the World.

We will take a closer look at our neighbours in France and learn about the country and lifestyles.

We may call in at Rio, Brazil to see how preparations are going for the Olympics, whilst learning about their country.

We will then board a New Zealand flight and take a look out of the window there to see the changing landscape. We will look at the effects of the earthquakes on the city of Christchurch.
